“thinking tools. Design as Process: On the Creation of Writing Utensils“
From 24 September 2016 to 29 January 2017, the Museum of Applied Art in Frankfurt am Main showed the exhibition “thinking tools. Design als Prozess – Wie Schreibgeräte entstehen“ which was initiated and sponsored by Lamy (curator: Prof. Dr. Klaus Klemp).
Around 40.000 visitors saw the exhibition which showed the 50-year design history of the brand. Numerous prototypes, models and sketches from the company's archive retraced the design process of writing instruments such as the LAMY 2000, LAMY pico or LAMY safari.
Illustrations by Christoph Niemann, whose works are known from such publications as the New Yorker and ZEITmagazin, enhanced the show with humorous statements on the importance of writing utensils as “thinking tools“ that aid us in conceiving and forming our thoughts.
After a successful start at the Frankfurt Museum of Applied Art, the exhibition “thinking tools. Design als Prozess – Wie Schreibgeräte entstehen“ will go on an international tour. More information will follow soon.
